Why does FAVES exist?
Imagine you're with friends and someone suggests Mexican. You open Google Maps and find a burrito spot - 150 reviews averaging 4.9 stars, perfect!
Only it's not perfect... In fact, this burrito sucks. How did it get so highly rated?
We think there's a better way to find great food, it's called FAVES.
What is FAVES?
FAVES allows you (and thousands of others) to share your favourite places to eat, collectively discovering the 'best-of-the-best' around the world.

But I already have Google Maps to find the best places to eat?
Google maps was made to provide directions - meaning, it's better suited directing you to the restaurant than deciding on one to go to.
We could go on all day about why the popular platforms don't work as well as they should. Fundamentally, it's because they rank eateries based on user reviews which are prone to a negativity bias (among many others!). At FAVES we want to discover the good, not highlight the bad.
So, you just review restaurants differently?
No.
Products like Google Maps & Yelp also rank the entire business as opposed to one item on a menu.
Imagine the best tacos in California are from a small mexican restaurant in San Bernadino. They they make geat tacos, but they also make average burritos. Google Maps might rate the joint a 3/5 - FAVES filters reviews for each item of food, meaning less people are sleeping on tacos that score 5/5.
Put it like this, if you were looking at buying an OLED TV's, would you want the LG's TV's rating to be influenced by reviews of their refrigerators? We think the same rules apply to restaurants - i.e. rate the products indivudally not collectively!
How many favourites am I allowed to have?
One Fave for each food type, per country - choose wisely.

You'll need to create an account if you'd like to engage with the platform.
A free gelato scoop if I set this place as my Fave?
We take fake reviews / bribing very seriosuly. If you have evidence of a restaurant bribing customers with a fake rating like this. Let us know.
Any restaurants discovered doing this will be banned from the platform.

Code of Conduct
All participants of FAVES are expected to abide by our Code of Conduct, both online and during in-person events that are hosted and/or associated with FAVES.
The Pledge
In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we pledge to make participation in our project and our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
The Standards
Examples of behaviour that contributes to creating a positive environment include:
- Using welcoming and inclusive language
- Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
- Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
Examples of unacceptable behaviour by participants include:
- Trolling, insulting/derogatory comments, public or private harassment
- Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or electronic address, without explicit permission.
- Not being respectful to reasonable communication boundaries, such as 'leave me alone,' 'go away,' or 'I'm not discussing this with you.'
- The usage of sexualised language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or advances.
- Demonstrating the graphics or any other content you know may be considered disturbing.
- Other conduct which you know could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.
Enforcement
Violations of the Code of Conduct may be reported by sending us an email. All reports will be reviewed and investigated and will result in a response that is deemed necessary and appropriate to the circumstances. Further details of specific enforcement policies may be posted separately.
We hold the right and responsibility to remove comments or other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, or to ban temporarily or permanently any members for other behaviours that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.
Privacy Policy
At FAVES, accessible from www.faves.tech, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by Faves and how we use it.

Log Files
Faves follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.
Cookies and Web Beacons
Like any other website, Faves uses "cookies". These cookies are used to store information including visitors' preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users' experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information.
Google DoubleClick DART Cookie
Google is one of a third-party vendor on our site. It also uses cookies, known as DART cookies, to serve ads to our site visitors based upon their visit to www.website.com and other sites on the internet. Third-party ad servers or ad networks uses technologies like cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons that are used in their respective advertisements and links that appear on Faves, which are sent directly to users' browser. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see on websites that you visit.
Note that Faves has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.
Third Party Privacy Policies
Faves's Privacy Policy does not apply to other advertisers or websites. Thus, we are advising you to consult the respective Privacy Policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information. It may include their practices and instructions about how to opt-out of certain options.

Children's Information
Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.
Faves does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
Online Privacy Policy Only
Our Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website with regards to the information that they shared and/or collect in Faves. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website.
